Meet the Leadership Team
Alex Cranberg — Chairman, Aspect
Since founding the Aspect Group in 1992, Alex has built it into a respected and active global enterprise, which together with its partners, has invested over US$1 billion dollars in E&P activities. Prior to founding the Aspect Group, Alex was an operations and reservoir engineer for Houston Oil and Minerals Corp, later joining General Atlantic Partners, responsible for its successful petroleum investments in the volatile 1980’s. Alex earned a Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Texas (Austin) and a Masters of Business Administration from Stanford University.
Codey James — Chief Operating Officer
Codey James graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Petroleum Engineer in 1998. Codey received his professional engineering certification in 2012 and is a registered professional engineer in the states of Ohio, Colorado and Texas. Codey started his career at Aspect in 1999 and was a business unit engineer through 2003. In 2004 Codey went to work at Encana Oil and Gas (USA) and worked in the new ventures unit focusing on the Barnett Shale. Codey then went to Resolute Energy where he focused on waterflooding and CO2 flooding the greater Aneth field in the Paradox basin. Codey then focused on horizontal Bakken development with Tracker Resources from April 2009 through March 2014. Codey returned to Aspect as Vice President and Reservoir Engineering Manager in March 2014. Codey was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2018.
Mike Peffer — Chief Geologist, Advisor to the Chairman
A 40 year veteran in the oil and gas industry, Mike joined Aspect Management in 2004. Mike’s exploration experience is wide ranging, from the Louisiana Gulf Coast to Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Romania. Prior to joining Aspect Management, Mike was Senior Geophysicist with St. Mary Land and Exploration from 1994-2004 and handled acquisition projects in Russia and exploration projects in most of the basins in the Mid-Continent of the United States, Texas and Rocky Mountains. Prior to St. Mary, Mike owned an exploration consulting company involved in projects throughout the continental United States, and held a variety of exploration positions. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics from the University of Utah in 1973.
Shawn Canaday — Chief Financial Officer
Prior to Aspect, Shawn was Chief Financial Officer for Fuse Energy, a private equity backed oil and gas company with a US focused acquire and exploit strategy. Shawn previously spent 10 years at Berry Petroleum, most recently as Vice President, Finance and Treasurer where he had responsibility for the company's finance, treasury, capital markets, investor relations, strategic planning, procurement and corporate tax functions. While at Berry, Shawn also held the position of Vice President and Controller and various other finance and accounting roles. Shawn previously worked in public accounting and for Chevron.
Board Members
Donald D. Wolf — Board Member
Mr. Wolf served as the Chief Executive Officer of Quantum Resources Management from 2006 until 2009 and he continued to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the general partner of the Fund to 2014. Prior to that Mr. Wolf served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Aspect Energy, LLC, from 2004 until 2006. Prior to joining Aspect, Mr. Wolf served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Westport Resources Corporation from 1996 to 2004. Mr. Wolf has also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of United Meridian Corporation from 1994 to 1996; President and Chief Executive Officer of General Atlantic Resources, Inc. from 1981 to 1993; and Co-Founder and President of Terra Marine Energy Company from 1977 to 1981. He began his career in 1965 with Sun Oil Company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, working in operations and land management. Following Sun Oil Company, he assumed land management positions with Bow Valley Exploration, Tesoro Petroleum Corp. and Southland Royalty Company from 1971 through 1977. Mr. Wolf currently serves as a director of Breitburn Energy Partners, LP, Enduring Resources, LLC; Laredo Petroleum, LLC; and Aspect Energy, LLC. He was inducted as an All American Wildcatter in 2009. Mr. Wolf is a former director of Markwest Energy Partners LP, Denbury Resources Inc., and the Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States. We believe that Mr. Wolf’s extensive experience in the energy industry brings substantial experience and leadership skill to the board of directors.
Kevin Moore — Board Member
Mr. Moore has been with the Clark Estates, Inc. since 1991 where he is currently President and Director. He is responsible for all activities of The Clark Estates, Inc. and its various affiliated investments and interests. The Clark Estates manages the business and financial affairs of the Clark family, co-founders of I.M. Singer & Company in 1850 (Singer sewing machine). Mr. Moore currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital; Vice President and Treasurer of The Scriven Foundation; and Director for the following affiliates; 3D Systems Corporation, Aspect Holdings LLC, The Farmers’ Museum Inc. Mr. Moore received his MBA from Stanford University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dartmoth College. Mr. Moore is Aspect Energy’s original founding partner and Board member since 1992.
Cathy Cranberg — Board Member
Cathy joined Aspect in 2015 as Member, Board of Directors. Cathy brings over 23 years of organizational, strategic, and business leadership experience. She spent her career leading large, complex commercial organizations at GE Healthcare and Novartis Pharmaceuticals where she specialized in advancing businesses to peak performance. She served as Managing Director at Novartis from 2008-2014 and as Vice President at General Electric from 2005-2008. Cathy received an MBA from Wingate University and a BA from The George Washington University. Cathy is a 2018 graduate of the Stanford Executive Leadership Program.
Luis Rodriguez — Board Member
Mr. Rodriguez brings over 14+ years of oil and gas experience as the founder of Raisa. He founded Raisa I in 2015 with an $11.4MM commitment to pursue non-operated working interests in the DJ Basin, which was ultimately sold into Raisa II in 2016, for 1.6x invested capital. Raisa II, an Encap Investments portfolio company, has grown to 50 employees, investing over $250MM in the most active unconventional plays in the US. Prior to founding Raisa, Mr. Rodriguez worked at Brigham Minerals where he oversaw investments of $100MM in over 600 separate transactions. Previously, Mr. Rodriguez spent 7 years with Schlumberger Well Services North America where he managed a Fracture Stimulation district of over 80 employees and led the development and implementation of the reliability efforts of Schlumberger’s HQ Transformation Initiative over Well Services $5B business unit. Mr. Rodriguez has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Simon Bolivar University, Caracas, Venezuela and an MBA from Stanford University.
Lora Mays — Board Member
For 11 years Lora was Chief Administration Officer and General Counsel for Aspect Holdings and responsible for providing legal services to Aspect and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Prior to joining Aspect, Lora held the positions of Associate General Counsel of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Vice President and General Counsel of Western Gas Partners, LLP, Anadarko’s midstream MLP. Lora earned a J.D. at University of Houston School of Law.
